The backbone of London's red double-deck bus network — standard numbered daytime routes operating roughly 05:00 to 00:30. Together with Superloop, night and airport services they carry over 5 million passengers a day.
Daytime routes are the core of the TfL bus network. Numbered 1–699, they run frequent service through every London borough, replacing trams and trolleybuses on most corridors since the 1950s and 60s.
Most are operated by contractors (Arriva, Stagecoach, RATP/Transit, Metroline, Go-Ahead London) under TfL franchise — fares and rules are set centrally so every route is interchangeable.
