Liftshare

UK's largest commuter carpool network — 700,000+ members, used by 700+ employers and councils. Matches London commuters travelling the same route to share daily drives.

Regulatory note: All ride-hailing in London — Uber, Bolt, FREE NOW, Wheely, Addison Lee, Gett — requires the operator and every driver to hold a Transport for London Private Hire Vehicle licence. Always book through the official app; never accept a kerbside hail from a PHV (only black cabs may be hailed).

FAQs

What is Liftshare?

Liftshare is the UK's largest commuter carpool platform — members post their daily commute (origin, destination, times) and the app matches them with other commuters travelling the same route. Heavily used by London-based employers as a sustainability scheme.

How is Liftshare different from BlaBlaCar?

BlaBlaCar = one-off long-distance intercity trips. Liftshare = recurring daily commutes (same route, same people, weekly schedule). Liftshare is also the standard product for employer- and council-sponsored carpool schemes; BlaBlaCar is consumer-direct.

Is Liftshare free?

The platform is free for individuals if your employer or council has a Liftshare scheme (most NHS trusts, councils, universities and large London employers do). Personal accounts pay a small subscription. The fare itself is a cost-share paid to the driver, not Liftshare.

Is Liftshare insured?

Liftshare carries its own £5m platform liability cover. UK private motor insurance is unaffected provided the fare is cost-share only (no profit). Liftshare's calculator caps the suggested fare at HMRC's 45p/mile mileage rate to stay clearly cost-share.

Do London employers offer Liftshare?

Yes — over 700 employers across the UK, including most NHS trusts, the Greater London Authority, Imperial College, TfL itself, John Lewis, Sky and most City of London corporates. Schemes typically include reserved car park spaces, prize draws and emergency-ride-home guarantees.
