Hampton Ferry

A small wooden launch crossing the Thames between Hampton (south-west London) and Molesey Lock on the Surrey bank — Britain's oldest continuously-operating ferry, recorded since 1519.

Route

Crosses the Thames between Hampton Ferry Boathouse (Thames Street, Hampton TW12 2EF) and Molesey Lock / Hurst Park on the Surrey side. The crossing takes about two minutes; the same boat carries foot passengers and bicycles.

Season & hours

Operates Easter to October, typically 10:00–18:00 (later in midsummer). On demand — wave to the boatman from either bank. Cash or card on board.

Getting there

Nearest station: Hampton (South Western Railway, Shepperton line). From central London via Waterloo to Hampton in about 35 minutes. By bus: TfL routes 111, 216 and R68 stop nearby.
