Voi E-Scooter

Voi (Voi Technology AB) was one of three founding operators of Transport for London's e-scooter trial that launched in June 2021. The coral-pink scooters operated alongside Lime and Dott under shared trial rules — 12.5 mph cap, geo-fencing and mandatory parking bays. Voi exited the London trial in 2024 as part of a wider strategic refocus.

Legal reminder: Only rental e-scooters from the TfL trial are legal on London roads and cycle lanes. Private e-scooters are illegal on public land. Always 18+, UK driving licence required, no pavement riding.

FAQs

Can I still hire a Voi scooter in London?

No — Voi withdrew from London's TfL trial in 2024. The remaining London trial operators are Lime and Dott. Voi continues to run schemes in Bristol, Liverpool, Birmingham and several other UK cities.

Why did Voi leave London?

Voi cited commercial reasons including small fleet caps imposed by TfL (limited to a few hundred scooters per operator) and high operating costs. It has refocused on cities where regulators allow larger fleets.

Were Voi scooters legal in London?

Yes — only as part of the official TfL rental trial, in geo-fenced areas. Private Voi scooters bought abroad are illegal to ride on UK public land.

What replaced Voi in the London trial?

Lime and Dott absorbed most of Voi's geographic coverage. TfL has not added a new third operator since.

Are Voi scooters coming back to London?

There is no announced timeline. Any return would depend on TfL's review of the trial (originally scheduled to conclude in 2026) and on Voi's commercial appetite.
