About Lumo

Launched in October 2021 by FirstGroup, Lumo runs five all-electric Class 803 trains — a single-class layout (no First) with reservable seats, USB charging at every seat and a low-cost online-only ticketing model.

Lumo competes directly with domestic flights between London and Edinburgh, claiming a 76% mode-share win since launch and emitting ~99% less CO₂ per passenger than the equivalent flight.

Lumo only stops at Stevenage, Newcastle and Morpeth between London and Edinburgh — making it noticeably quicker than most LNER services.
