IFS Cloud Cable Car (Royal Docks)

The IFS Cloud Cable Car (originally the Emirates Air Line, opened in 2012) is the only urban aerial cable car in the UK — a Doppelmayr gondola system that lifts passengers 90 metres above the Thames between The O2 and ExCeL in 5–10 minutes.

About the IFS Cloud Cable Car (Royal Docks)

The cable car is fully integrated into TfL fares: you can tap in with Oyster or contactless, though the per-trip rate (£6 adult one-way as of 2026) is higher than a Tube journey and not included in TfL daily caps.

Each of the 34 ten-person gondolas runs in a continuous loop, departing every 15–30 seconds. There is no timetable — you simply board the next cabin.

The Cable Car serves two main destinations: The O2 Arena (via North Greenwich Jubilee line, 3 minutes' walk) and ExCeL London (via Royal Victoria DLR, 5 minutes' walk).

It is the fastest way to cross the river between these two venues — particularly useful for back-to-back events, conferences and concerts.

Can I use Oyster or contactless on the Cable Car?

Yes — single fares are around £6 adult / £3 child with Oyster or contactless. The fare is not included in TfL daily price capping.

Is the Cable Car running today?

It runs daily but can close in high winds (above 50 mph). Check the TfL status page before travelling, especially in autumn and winter.

Is the Cable Car wheelchair accessible?

Yes — the gondolas can be slowed to allow wheelchair, mobility scooter and pram boarding, and both terminals are fully step-free.

What are the opening times?

Approximately 07:00–21:00 Mon–Thu, 07:00–23:00 Fri, 08:00–23:00 Sat and 09:00–21:00 Sun. Hours may extend during major O2/ExCeL events.
