About London's light rail network
London's only modern tram network is London Tramlink, opened in May 2000 to serve south London from Croydon out to Wimbledon, New Addington, Beckenham Junction and Elmers End. The network operates four colour-coded routes that share track through the central Croydon loop, providing combined headways as low as 3–5 minutes during peak hours.
The other piece of London's light rail family is the IFS Cloud Cable Car (formerly Emirates Air Line) — the UK's only urban aerial gondola, opened for the 2012 Olympics. It links the Greenwich Peninsula (The O2) with the Royal Docks (ExCeL) in 5–10 minutes, 90 metres above the Thames.
For automated metro on dedicated track, see the Docklands Light Railway. For mainline rapid transit, see London Underground and the London Overground.
